Hilltop Project Announced by AX Holdings

30 Jun 2014

AX Holdings have today announced their commitment towards a €43M development project that is set to become operational by September 2015.

Hilltop Gardens Retirement Village is a new concept to the Maltese islands, and challenges the local stereotypes on aging while acknowledging the huge contribution that people later in life are able to make to society.

In fact, the development moves away from the standard model of institutional elderly care and shall address the existing lacuna in the provision of elderly community healthcare services directly.

During his speech, Mr. Angelo Xuereb, Chairman, AX Holdings noted that “Hilltop Gardens has been designed with the sole intent of offering elderly residents the best of retirement living, combined with an independent lifestyle designed to create a unique active aging experience.” To this end, Hilltop Gardens will offer 133 deluxe apartments and penthouses with extensive views in a 17,000 sqm development in the heart of the village of Naxxar. “Nevertheless, aesthetics have been brought to the foreground and the development shall include around sixty percent landscaped areas, with the remaining forty percent representing accommodation and state-of-the-art facilities which shall further enhance this vibrant elderly community,” he added.

It has also been noted that elderly needs and dependencies change over the course of time. To this end, Hilltop Gardens shall also be equipped with all the necessary clinical and domiciliary care provided by qualified medical staff and allied health professionals employed by the Village.

“Hilltop Gardens has been created to cater for independent and assisted living for individuals who are over 50 years of age.  The idea behind the provision of assisted daily living services is to offer a lifestyle alternative for independently-minded older people with care needs, who would rather live in their own property while benefiting from a vast range of hotel-type services as well as at-home support,” affirmed Ms Jacqueline Camilleri, CEO, Hilltop Gardens Retirement Village.

Facilities will include a fitness centre, a library, a chapel, a restaurant, bar and bistro, a billiard room, a crafts centre, darts room, card room, multipurpose hall, a wellness spa including an indoor pool, an outdoor swimming pool and relaxation area, a therapy pool, children’s indoor and outdoor play areas, a mini market and a hairdressing saloon, garden allotments and a clinical centre including diabetic clinics, ophthalmology services, dental services, podiatry, physiotherapy, and occupational health services as well as geriatric services; amongst others.

Hilltop Gardens will also be a licensed Simblija Care Home which will cater for medium to high dependency patients as well as residents with dementia or others requiring respite care.  The Care Home will provide 24 hour clinical care by our licenced multidisciplinary teams including nursing and caring staff.  Patients will be clinically assessed and tailored programmes of care that respond to the needs of patients and enhance their quality of life, will be provided.
