LifeWalk: A Journey of Hope and Strength, Supported by AX Care

19 Jun 2023

LifeWalk, a charity event organised by the Lifecycle Foundation, celebrated its third successful year of raising funds and awareness for individuals battling renal failure. This year, on Sunday, 28th May, a dedicated team of 22 individuals embarked on an awe-inspiring journey, traversing the entire length of the iconic Hadrian’s Wall Walk, covering a remarkable distance of 135 kilometres in just four days.

Among the courageous participants was Joseph Caruana, a resident at Hilltop Gardens and an inspiration to all who know him. Recognised for his kindness, politeness, and humility, Joseph, at the age of 68, demonstrated his exceptional physical fitness as he took on this remarkable challenge. Although a regular attendee at ChicPhysique gym within Hilltop, Joseph had never attempted anything of this magnitude before, and understandably, he was apprehensive about the endeavour.

Joined by a team comprising individuals young enough to be his grandchildren, Joseph fearlessly embraced the physical and mental demands of the journey. On Thursday, 1st June, he triumphantly strode into the finish line at “Segedunum,” Wallsend, having successfully traversed the breadth of England. Joseph’s remarkable accomplishment not only raised awareness for those less fortunate individuals suffering from renal failure but also highlighted the invaluable benefits of maintaining a healthy and active lifestyle. Through his journey, Joseph emphasized that his exceptional quality of life is a direct result of his commitment to fitness and overall well-being.

Joseph’s spirit of resilience and determination has been truly remarkable. Despite his humble nature, at AX Care, we recognise his outstanding accomplishments and have also donated to the cause.

Joseph Caruana is already looking forward to next year’s challenge, having booked his place to repeat this feat of strength and endurance. His story serves as a reminder that age is not a barrier to accomplishing extraordinary things, and with the support of our community, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of renal patients.
